Fun things to do near Coventry...

By bzbeth 10 Sep 2018

Yes, you've chosen a great city to live in but there are LOTS of places you can visit that aren't too far from Coventry too!

All you need to do is jump on a train, bus/coach or in your car to explore everything your surrounding areas have to offer. A day trip is always a good thing to suggest when your friends and family come to visit you. Here are a few of our favourites:

Birmingham
If big cities are your thing, jump on the 20-minute train and you'll be in the second biggest city in the UK. In Birmingham, you'll be spoilt for choice of things to do. It has shopping, independent and big names, a huge choice of restaurants, sporting activities, music venues and more. You HAVE to visit Digbeth Dining Club during your visit though!

Midland Air Museum
This is one of the country’s leading independent aviation museums that's been going since 1967! It's a unique collection that not many people know much about but if you're interested in jets and aircrafts (or just want to learn something new) then it's definitely somewhere to visit. You'll get some pretty cool Instagram pictures too...

West Midlands Safari Park
For somewhere a little further out (an hour and twenty minutes away), head here. You can get there by train, but you really need a car to get the full safari park experience. The park supports conservation projects meaning it helps with breeding programmes and aids research, so you can enjoy your day knowing you’re helping to fund the future of wildlife too.

Warwick Arts Centre
If you enjoy the occasional theatre show, this has your name written all over it. Check out their impressive live comedy schedule – Jimmy Carr, Joel Dommett and Phill Jupitus have all had shows there. You can sometimes get student discounts and don't forget your discounted bus tickets - you're only going to go to Warwick University so it's not far.

British Motor Museum
Not only does BNM have the world's largest collection of historic British cars but it has free tours and interactive activities that everyone will love so what's not to love? There are over 300 classic cars to explore so if you're an engineering student, this is a great day out - plus, they take on a lot of CU graduates!

Coombe Abbey Country Park
If you want somewhere just a 15-minute drive from Coventry City Centre, Coombe Abbey Park is exactly where you should go. Take time out to chill in the outdoors and you can even have a BBQ in the park area or treat yourself to some afternoon tea - it's pretty impressive.

Stratford-upon-Avon
If you're in 'tourist mode' head to Stratford-upon-Avon. You could catch a show at the Royal Shakespeare Company or go on a riverboat tour around Shakespeare’s Birthplace. There are lots of cafés and boutiques, so this definitely worth a full day out. Your parents will be impressed if you take them there for the day when they come up and visit, put it that way!

Try to check at least a couple of these out during your time in Coventry, you won't regret it.
